Tarte Cosmetics Lipsurgence Lip Gloss Review & Swatches

Product Type

These have a new lip gloss formula meant to remain hydrating while plumping and tinting lips--they contain lip beneficial ingredients such as vitamin E and jojoba oil. These are paraben- and pthalate-free.

Scent/Flavor

While these weren't flavored per say, they all had the same scent. It reminded me a bit of a pleasant smelling sunscreen.

Shades

8 shades were introduced in Tarte's spring release of the new lipsurgence glosses. All are fairly transparent and most provide a smooth, somewhat subtle wash of color. Keep in mind that my lips have very little pigmentation naturally.

On the Lips

These were slightly tacky when my lips pressed together. The finish was glass-smooth, though I did notice that the pigment from a few of the colors appeared to settle into lip lines (not the actual gloss) up very close--not noticeable from a standing distance away. The fragrance on these was moderately strong and did seem to fade a bit with wear, but if you're very sensitive to fragrance you may want to check these out in-store prior to purchasing.

I'm not sure if these have an actual plumping ingredient in them, but I did feel a teeny bit of tingling with these. These did not bleed or travel with wear.

Applicator

These have my favorite style applicator--a curved doe foot. These hug the lips beautifully in my experience and apply this formula perfectly.

Final Thoughts

I like this formula. While I'm not in love with the fragrance, I think the overall affect and wear is lovely. On their own some of the colors are not hugely different even on my unpigmented lips, but over lipstick, liner or lipsurgence stain may have differing effects. If you're like me and like glosses that are super smooth and budget-proof (and don't mind a bit of tackiness) then these are definitely worth a try in my opinion.

I like that there were a mix of creamy colors and colors with little flecks in this collection. I think my favorite shades were probably Blushing Bride, Tipsy, Flush and True Love.

What do you think about Tarte's new Lipsurgence lip glosses? Which shades are your favorite?

    1. There are definitely similarities, but if you look close you can see the difference between most :) They're not opaque so I'm not surprised they look somewhat similar on bare lips! Layering would really bring out the differences though for those that prefer to layer.

    1. LOL I'm with you! And these are definitely moderately tacky and thick enough to coat the lips smoothly, but not feel heavy if that makes sense!
