OCC Profile
Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics is a cruelty-free, vegan cosmetic brand that creates stellar products for pro and consumer use. Products range from foundation to loose shadow; glitter to lip products. OCC is probably best known for their unique lip tars aka revolutionary lippies that are a hyper pigmented liquid lipstick products. I have been a long-time fan of OCC and you may remember I shared an initial post on the two mini lip tar sets released for the holidays exclusively at Sephora a while back. I was also given the opportunity to swatch and review the mini x4 set not too long ago.
When the Sephora Friends & Family sale popped up in October I was fortunate enough to get a code and I used it to purchase the Lip Tar All-Star Mini x 12 set I'd been dying for. I've swatched and reviewed it for you today! While I already had a few of the shades in this set (and plan to gift the duplicates) I re-swatched everything for consistency's sake. This set includes 12 mini lip tars with varying finishes and a full-size OCC lip brush. For the sake of this review I refrained from using one of my favorite lip brushes and used the full-size lip brush in this kit for all of my swatches. I'll review the brush at the end.

Availability
Now, I know this set is currently sold out. I contacted Sephora and was told by a rep that they believe it will be restocked. When I asked if it would be continually restocked through the holidays I was told they didn't have that info, but because it is very popular odds are good it would be. I've contacted PR and have been informed it will be restocked! I am waiting for more in-depth info on when as I've had a number of you tell me you were planning to purchase and are eagerly waiting for it to come back! I promise I'll try to find out what I can for you!Price
The OCC Lip Tar All-Star Mini x 12 Set retails for $58.

OCC Lip Tar All-Star Mini x 12 Set Swatches and Review
Product Type
This is a set of 12 mini lip tars and 1 full-size lip brush. The lip tars vary in shades and finishes. Each lip tar has approximately .08 fl oz or 2.5 mL. Just to put that into prospective, a full-size lip tar has .33 lf oz or 10 mL, so the minis have roughly 25% the volume of the full-size tubes. That means that you are getting approximately 3 full-size lip tar's worth in volume for $58. 3 full-size lip tars would cost ($18 x 3) $54 and the brush retails for $18. Therefore, you save ($72 - $58) $14 by volume by purchasing the kit in total.
Scent/Flavor
Lip tars have a slight minty feel to them that I love! It is subtle and cooling. There is no distinguishable taste to me.

On the Lips
I love lip tars and find most to be extremely pigmented and great when worn alone or layered. Original lip tars generally have amazingly even coverage. OCC metallic lip tars tend to vary for me and I find the formulas are consistently thicker than the original or gloss formulas. I've broken down the lip tars by shade to give you a better idea of how each performed:
- Authentic - well-pigmented, even coverage
- Clear - clear and hydrating
- Clockwork - well-pigmented, even coverage
- Divine - well-pigmented, even coverage (recommend a light liner underneath if you have very pigmented lips)
- Electric Grandma - well-pigmented, fairly even coverage (especially compared to some of the other metallics)
- Lovecraft - very metallic and slightly patchy, best when layered or mixed with clear gloss in my opinion
- Pris - very metallic and fairly patchy, best when mixed with other products in my opinion
- Psycho - well-pigmented, even coverage
- Stalker - well-pigmented, even coverage
- Strumpet - well-pigmented, even coverage
- Super NSFW - well-pigmented, even coverage
- Yaoi - pigmented, slightly patchy when worn alone but perfectly even when layered or mixed
Where to Buy
All of these lip tars are available for individual purchase in full-size on OCC's site HERE if you'd rather buy them separately.
OCC Precision Lip Brush Review
Product Type
This is a small, cruelty-free lip brush meant for precision application.
On the Lip
This is a stiff, teeny, densely packed lip brush that is one of the smallest full-size lip brushes I've worked with. The handle is a nice length and fairly light-weight (I prefer long handles). It made working with the lip tars above easy, though my brush had a couple stray bristles on one outer edge that made it a bit difficult to get a super crisp edge. I personally love a sharp edge to my lips, so I avoided using the side with the bent bristles. I plan to wash it and see if I can get it to dry in such a way that those bristles don't splay to the side.
Price
This brush normally retails for $18 when sold separately.

My Thoughts
As I mentioned above, the value for this set (by volume) is actually great when you take the value of the brush into consideration as well. I love that you can try 12 different lip tar shades for a reasonable price. Lip tars tend to go a long way, so you will likely get a decent amount of wear out of this kit. And once you're out of your favs you'll know which to re-purchase! I highly recommend stocking Sephora until this is restocked because it is fantastic! Buy it for yourself, buy it for the lippy lovers in your life!
What do you think? Will you be nagging the Lip Tar All-Star Mini x 12 Set once it's back in stock?
Note: Products in this post were purchased by me.
You make me need this set. Amazing lip swatches!!
ReplyDeleteThank you!
DeleteGreat swatches! I think I need them all! <3
ReplyDeleteThanks! Good thing they all come in the set :)
DeleteI love so many of these I couldn't choose! Divine, Clockwork, Psycho, Stalker, Strumpet, Electric Grandma and definitely the clear since my clear lipglass leaked in my makeup case and made everything sticky. What's your feeling about using the clear as a primer like they suggest? And are these easy to get off? Brilliant swatches as usual though I wish it was a build your own type thing bc I'm not confident about Pris.
ReplyDeleteUsing Clear as a primer can be helpful because lip tars work best with hydrated lips in my experience. I found the lip tars worked better with the clear than with most balms because it adhered to the Clear (probably because the bases are pretty much the same) versus a regular balm which can sometimes cause them to slip around a bit. Generally lip tars stain on me, but given how little pigment I have in my lips EVERYTHING pretty much stains my lips when put directly on my lips. I generally wear balm/primer and pencil underneath my lip products (when not swatching) which helps avoid staining and lengthens wear. Pris is definitely the type worth purchasing IF you want to mix it. It's got a dazzling sparkle to it, but I personally wouldn't recommend using it alone.
DeleteThese all look so awesome on you...you can pull off so many great colors! Also...did you just add the LUSH Penguin to your blog header or has he always been there?!?! He is adorable!!!
