NewBeauty TestTube Profile

NewBeauty TestTube is a newly revamped beauty subscription service which gives subscribers the opportunity to try out new products up to 6 times per year (formerly quarterly). Products come in fun "beauty test tubes", which can be reused for storage along with an editor-curated "Beauty To-Go" travel bag of bonus items. This subscription also includes a copy of NewBeauty magazine, which comes quarterly. Mine didn't come with the magazine, but it looks like fun!

The premier edition launched with a full-size IT Cosmetics Heavenly Luxe Powder Brush (retail $48) and I have this edition of NewBeauty's TestTube to share with you today. I have included pricing below for the 2 full-size items I received in this NewBeauty TestTube in case you're interested in purchasing them separately.

Price

This subscription is $29.95 plus shipping per TestTube

AmorePacific Color Control Cushion Compact SPF 50 Mini-Review

Product Review

This is a liquid foundation meant to hydrate, provide good coverage and offer broad-spectrum sun protection.

Scent

This has a fragrance to it that is sweet and perfume-y. I'm personally not a fan of scented foundations and this was strong enough to detect even after applied for me.

Shade

I received a sample of the shade Tan Blush 104, which is the lightest shade currently offered.

Tan Blush 104 - this is a slightly warm beige (slightly warmer than shown here)

On the Face

Because of the scent in this foundation I was unable to apply it to my entire face. I have a very sensitive nose and certain scents can trigger my migraines--especially when they're on my face. The formula itself is very interesting and I can't remember if I've seen the "loaded sponge" in a jar packaging before. The coverage on this was light to moderate and the formula itself was very smooth.

My Thoughts

As this is the lightest shade, I'm not sure if someone with a fair complexion would be able to give this product a try, but for those with medium complexions this may be worth a shot if the fragrance isn't an issue.

Price (for full size)

The full-size version of this foundation retails for $60

Where to Buy

This can be purchased through AmorePacific's site or through Sephora/Sephora.com.

Mally Evercolor Starlight Waterproof Eyeliner in Starshine

Product Type

This is a waterproof eyeliner meant to be long-lasting and well pigmented.

Shade

I received this pencil in Starshine.

Starshine - Silvery tin

On the Eye

This was incredibly creamy and super, super soft. Soft to the point where the tip actually came off onto my skin while swatching. This pencil was pretty well pigmented and fairly budge-proof and it did not stain once removed. I did find it slightly buildable.

My Thoughts

I really need to play around with this more prior to making a full conclusion. It seems to be fairly easy to work with, but the fact that it's so incredibly soft may or may not affect how I feel about it over time. The jury is still out on this one!

Price

This eyeliner retails for $15

Where to Buy

This can be purchased through Mally's site.

NewBeauty Beauty To-Go

NewBeauty TestTube Beauty To-Go Review

Product Type

In this kit

This kit included the following:

  • Bonus: Dr. Brandt Pore Effect - this is a face cream with a heavy scent (1 oz/30 mL sample)

It Cosmetics Heavenly Luxe Powder Brush Review

It Cosmetics Heavly Luxe Powder Brush Review

Product Type

This is a synthetic all-over powder brush.

Bristles

As I mentioned, this is a cruelty-free brush made with synthetic bristles. The bristles have tinted tips (reminds me of badger hair) and are so insanely soft! Kittens and puppies are jealous of how soft these bristles are--seriously.

Handle

The handle is short, wide and has a suede-like rubber feel to it. Generally I prefer a long handle, but for powder brushes I don't mind shorter handles and this has a nice weight and feel to it.

On the Face

This is a moderately densely packed brush, so it holds a decent amount of powder and transfers a decent amount onto your skin. I always recommend using a light hand when working with powders to avoid "caking" them on and disturbing makeup underneath. I would suggest the same with this brush.

It is so, so soft! I'm incredibly picky (big shocker) about brushes and can't stand having anything remotely scratchy or rough near my skin. This is a complete joy to use--like bunnies caressing your face (if I wasn't allergic to them)!

My Thoughts

For the value, this NewBeauty TestTube obviously far exceeded the price it would cost to subscribe and receive it. The full-size It Cosmetics brush alone is worth more than the subscription fee! That being said, as this was a special premier edition I would have to see future NewBeauty TestTubes to accurately judge whether a bi-monthly subscription would be worth the value. From what I've seen so far, it seems NewBeauty has done a great job launching its revamped TestTube beauty subscription. Time will tell if they have the stamina to continue to impress beauty-lovers.

I do love that they included a variety of products in this particular TestTube. One of my major complaints with the majority of beauty subscriptions I've reviewed over the years has been seeing the same products over and over. I like that there were hair, skin and makeup products in this one. I also love that you receive both deluxe and full-size products in each TestTube.

Based on my experience here, I think it may be worth investigating NewBeauty TestTube for a few months and seeing how it goes!

What do you think? Would you consider subscribing to NewBeauty TestTube?
