Davines OI Essential Hair Care Line Review

Product Types

This line consists of the following products:
  • OI Shampoo - softening shampoo meant to provide shine and body
  • OI Conditioner - softening conditioner meant to protect hair and quicken the drying process
  • OI/All in One Milk - leave-in product meant to provide shine, detangle, reduce frizz, protect from heat
  • OI/Oil - leave-in oil meant to protect and de-frizz hair

Scent

These have a sophisticated, feminine fragrance that complement one another. The scent is a bit more mature and lingers in the hair once dried and styled.

Packaging

I love the simplicity of Davines' packaging. It actually reminds me of a cross between old and new in design. For example, the shampoo bottle looks to me like a modern take on an old fashion milk bottle. I also love that Davine is dedicated to sustainable packaging. I'd like to note that because of the shape of the shampoo bottle it is very easy to get product out, so take care to go slowly so that you don't pour too much out at once.

In the Hair

I found that the shampoo lathered well in my hair and left it clean feeling afterwards. The conditioner, which is luxe and thick, was easy to comb through my hair and rinse out. It left my hair a bit softer and completely tangle-free. I used both the OI/All in One Milk and OI/Oil. The OI/All in One Milk made it easy to comb through my hair and the OI/Oil left my hair shiny and less frizzy than usual. I have extremely thick, textured hair so frizz and general misbehavior are major issues.

My Thoughts

I like this hair care line and have a deep respect and admiration for their dedication to sustainability. While I typically prefer lighter scents, I think many will find the fragrances in the OI products to be really appealing. The conditioner is a lovely thick cream, which is exactly what I look for in a good conditioner. I think that without the OI/All in One Milk and OI/Oil, the shampoo and conditioner on their own might not be quite hydrating enough for my hair type (again, it is extremely thick and textured). However, with the combination of all 4 products it left my hair shiny and less frizzy than usual. I think for those with less difficult hair, you could potentially go without the combination of all 4 products if you wanted. I tend to buy higher-end hair care because of my hair type, so these prices are around what I normally pay, but these may or may not be within your budget depending on whether or not you tend to invest in higher-end products. All in all, I enjoyed using these and am curious to explore more of Davines hair care products!

Have you tried Davines hair care? Do these sound like the type of products you'd consider using in your hair?

Update: There was a question regarding the full ingredients list so PR was kind enough to send over shots of the ingredients list on the bottles!

    1. Maybe this would work! Ugh my hair is ridiculously textured, super thick Asian hair. If I don't have super hydration I look like I stuck my finger in a socket ;) Gotta love needy hair!

    1. Hahaha aw yay!!! I agree with you on the scent. I wouldn't personally choose it just for the scent, but the product is effective!
